02Participation
BaeCafe
Turn reveal into participation
BaeCafe made an NFT reveal interactive: minters could choose a preferred profile picture, and the choice became a transparent social-sharing experiment.
Participation loop
A reveal with an active choice
BaeCafe reveal
choose · share · reveal
- 01
Choose
Pick a preferred profile picture.
- 02
Share
Generate an X post to unlock choice.
- 03
Reveal
Receive the selected result.
Product trade-off: participation supported distribution, but the requirement reduced user autonomy.
- Situation
- Nam and the project team built BaeCafe from scratch at a time when many NFT reveals ended with the buyer receiving a randomly assigned asset and having little meaningful role in the moment.
- Decision
- Nam proposed an early reveal-and-choice mechanic that let minters choose the profile picture they wanted instead of treating reveal as a passive technical step.
- What changed
- The reveal tied that choice to a generated X post. Completing the share unlocked choice; without it, the historical flow could fall back to assignment. That made participation and distribution part of the product, but it also created a real trade-off with user autonomy.
- Result
- The durable product result was a reveal with an active sequence—choose, share, reveal—rather than a passive assignment. No performance metric is claimed for the experiment.
- What carried forward
- A growth mechanic can live inside the product’s most emotional moment. It still has to earn the participation it asks for and make the trade-off visible.
